Machines a poem by Rudyard kipling - illustrations shown below printed by etched and cut lino blocks - bound as a concertina book - edition limited to 25 signed and numbered - date May 2014
Each illustration in the book is printed using the reduction linocut technique. The block is first cut to produce the white areas and in Mauritania, for example, the first printing is taken from the block using yellow. After completing a set number of prints for the edition the block is then re-cut this time to preserve the yellow areas. Then reprinted using red. The final black printing takes place after the block has been re-cut to preserve the red printed areas. After this final stage the block is now redundant which stresses the importance of initially producing a few more prints than the required edition number to cover inevitable rejects.
